EKU Online offers a range of scholarships designed to address the financial needs of our students, lower the overall cost of attendance and reward a student’s scholastic achievements. In addition to the scholarship programs listed below, EKU has other privately funded awards available through the EKU Foundation. EKU University Scholarships

Start Strong Scholarship Fund

The Start Strong Scholarship provides up to $2,000 per year of need-based scholarship funds for newly admitted undergraduate students. Candidates must have a completed FAFSA application, but are not required to be eligible for FAFSA awarded funding.

Stay Strong Scholarship Fund

The Stay Strong Scholarship provides up to $1,000 per year of need-based scholarship funds for qualified undergraduate students who have completed two semesters with EKU Online and have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher their previous semester. Candidates must have a completed FAFSA application, but are not required to be eligible for FAFSA awarded funding.

Omega Nu Lambda Honor Society Scholarship Fund

In recognition of your accomplishments as an online student, Omega Nu Lambda Honor Society provides members with an opportunity to apply for a scholarship in both fall and spring. Fall scholarships are announced in November and spring are announced in April.

EKU Foundation Scholarship

The Eastern Kentucky University Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to deserving students.  EKU Foundation scholarships are awarded through the University Scholarship Office and at college and department levels.  New and renewable awards of EKU Foundation scholarships are subject to available funds each year. 

Departmental Scholarships

Departmental scholarships are awarded by specific EKU departments. The type, amount and criteria for these scholarships will vary by department. Unless otherwise noted, you can apply for departmental scholarships using the foundation scholarship page. You will need to create an account, if you have not already done so, in order to submit applications.

If you receive a departmental scholarship, you must notify your financial aid officer so the award can be properly reported as part of your total aid package. Failure to report awards can result in the award not being accepted or a portion of the funds having to be repaid due to overpayment.

Business:
  • Risk Management & Insurance Foundation Scholarships:
    For members of Gamma Iota Sigma who have participated in RMI activities/functions
  • KEMI-for Kentucky Employee’s Mutual Insurance Diversity Scholarship
    For racially/ethnically diverse students with a major in RMI as it relates to the goal of increasing diversity in the career of Insurance; Kentucky resident.
College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences: 

NOTE: The qualifying majors listed pertain to online offerings. Additional on-campus majors are eligible for these scholarships and can be viewed with the corresponding links.

Fire Science
  • Arthur Glatfelter Scholarship
    Eligible if a For Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology major
  • John A. Kennedy Fire Investigators Scholarship (NAFI)
    Preference given to students who major in Fire, Arson & Explosion Investigation
  • Richard A. Washburn Memorial Scholarship
    Eligible if participated in fire or emergency services. Preference to non-traditional students
Health Services Administration:
  • EKU Smart Corporation Medical Records Endowed Scholarship
    Must be in the HIIM concentration
  • The Kentucky Health Information Management Association (KHIMA) scholarship

Nursing:
  • Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Scholarship 
  • Family Nurse Practitioner Scholarship
    For those who have worked with underserved in volunteer, student or professional role; desire or intent to work with underserved after graduation
  • Carolyn C. Mattingly Endowed Scholarship
    For those with a commitment to mental health and wellness in the community
Public Administration:
  • Kline Award 
  • Eligible for GA position when available
Social Work:
  • Jackie Blanchard Stephens Endowed Memorial Scholarship
  • R. Powell Award Fund
  • Sue Friedman Professional Development Award

Outside Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded by an organization other than the government or university. They are available from several groups, organizations and entities nationwide. Third-party scholarships can be general in nature or very specialized and tied to the type of work you would be doing after graduation.

If you receive an outside scholarship, you must notify your financial aid officer so the award can be properly reported as part of your total aid package. Failure to report awards can result in the award not being accepted or a portion of the funds having to be repaid due to overpayment.
