Curriculum

EKU’s Online emergency management and disaster resilience certificate offers a real-world focus and practical skill building. Through the guidance of nationally recognized safety experts from nearly every corner of the industry, you can build the foundation you need to lead and discover new ways to keep workers safe, and design and implement corrective safety measures.

Infrastructure Protection and Risk Analysis – HLS 810
Foundations for providing security and resilience to the nation’s critical infrastructure with an emphasis on risk management.

Achieving Long-Term Disaster Resilience – HLS 830 s community wide mitigation and preparedness strategies aimed at reducing the impacts of natural hazards and achieving long-term disaster resilience.

Unconventional Threats and Responses – HLS 831
The course addresses concepts, theories, laws and authorities, principles, programs, and requirements associated with unconventional threats to our nation that most likely would result in mass casualties and pose large-scale responses and cascading threats.

Intergovernmental Relations in Disaster Management – HLS 835
Analysis of intergovernmental relations and disaster policies across all phases of emergency management with a focus on disaster response and recovery. Systems are investigated through critical thinking, case studies, and comparative analysis methodologies.

Special Tuition for Active Duty* Military
Eastern Kentucky University offers reduced tuition expenses to $250 per credit hour for undergraduate and $325 per credit hour for graduate courses to all service members currently serving on active duty.
