Eastern Kentucky University teamed up with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to create solutions to address rural Kentucky’s need for better access to quality healthcare. The Anthem Rural Medicine Scholarship is available to eligible students who agree to serve eastern Kentucky communities for at least three after graduation. This scholarship, funded by a $92,000 donation by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, is designed to cover the cost of textbooks and tuition. Eight Nurse Practitioner students at EKU received the Anthem Rural Medicine Scholarship in 2021. These recipients were Alan Sloas, Haley Bloom, Madison Trent, Alexis McWhorter, Breanna Goble, Sara Cornelison, Shaye Duvall and Sara Darmadji.
