This month, we’re catching up with EKU alumna, Aly Wilburn. Aly was a communication studies major during her time spent at EKU, which has helped her in all areas of her life. According to Aly, she’s “Used what [she] learned in so many of the communication classes to create really strong relationships with [her] fiancé, friends, and family. Those relationships then give [her] the energy to show up to work every day and give it [her] all.”
Aly’s initial plan after college was to get a job and go on a “great adventure” with her boyfriend Connor within 5 years. Originally, she wanted her great adventure to be a hike through the Appalachian trail, then she wanted it to be living in London for a year, which eventually changed to van-life. According to Aly, she “didn’t care where [she] went, [she] just wanted to do something big.” However, when Aly graduated college, she ended up becoming the front desk girl at a real estate brokerage. Through this job, Aly learned about house hacking, and quickly purchased her first multifamily property in just one year of starting that job. She then switched jobs to work for the top real estate team in Cincinnati and told them she, “Would be leaving within 5 years to go on [her] big adventure, which they were okay with.” After starting her new job, it only took two years to save enough money for her and Connor to quit their jobs and hit the road!
Aly and Connor quit their jobs in February 2023 with a plan to take 6 months off work to live in their camper and travel the U.S. full time! Aly has big plans for her future, and her great adventure of life is only just beginning!
