RN-BSN

Application Deadlines

The deadlines for the EKU Online RN-BSN program are as follows. All materials need to be turned in by these dates.

  • Fall – July 1
  • Spring – November 1
  • Summer – March 15

Application Requirements

  1. Associate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited program.
  2. An RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumbrance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.
  3. Minimum grade equivalent of a 2.5 (C) or the previous nursing program’s passing grade in any nursing or support course to be transferred.

Application Process

Attention EKU Students: If you are currently enrolled as an EKU ADN student, complete Part II and Part III below and contact Amanda Ballou to request a change of major.

If you previously completed coursework as an admitted student in the EKU RN-BSN program and are seeking readmission, contact Angie.Wheeler@eku.edu for specific instructions.

Undergraduate Application

Part II: Apply to the RN to BSN Program

Complete the EKU Department of Baccalaureate & Graduate Nursing Departmental Application.

Please note: Acceptance to the RN to BSN program is a two-step process.  You must be accepted to EKU and then accepted to the program.

Part III: Send required documents

1. Visit your state board of nursing website for verification of your current nursing license and send it to:

2. Request transcripts from any and all colleges or universities that you have attended. You can do this by contacting the schools directly or using the National Student Clearinghouse website. Transcripts sent to a student and then delivered to EKU will not be accepted. Each transcript must bear the original signature of the authorized official, along with the seal of the institution, and must be sent to EKU directly from the issuing institution. Transcripts are not required for courses taken at EKU.

Master of Science in Nursing

Application Requirements

1. Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.

2. RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumbrance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

3. A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0. 

4. 3-hour graduate or undergraduate course in statistics with a grade of “C” or higher.

5. At least one year of RN experience by the time their application is submitted.

Admission is competitive. Selection is based on careful consideration of all application materials, including but not limited to, academic transcripts, the applicant’s professional statement, three required professional references, and professional work experience. In addition to the criteria listed, an interview may be requested.

Nursing License – Provide verification of your current RN license and, if applicable, your APRN.

Professional References - Within the application, you will be prompted to enter email addresses for three professional references. An electronic reference form will be emailed to each reference when the application is submitted.

Occupational Profile - Use the official EKU form to provide an occupational profile.  

MSN Professional Statement - Write a statement that is 500-700 words (2 pages) in length. In your professional statement, you must describe:

  • The unique role of the advanced practice MSN-prepared nurse (PMHNP or FNP).
  • How the specific nursing knowledge and skills you have gained through professional experience will contribute to your success in the MSN program.
  • Your reasons or motivations for pursuing an advanced practice degree in your chosen concentration (PMHNP or FNP).
  • Your specific plans for life modification in order to successfully meet the class and clinical requirements in a 100% online MSN program.

Submit your proof of licensure, occupational profile and professional statement in the final section of your application under the “Supporting Documents” tab, or mail, or e-mail them to the EKU Graduate School at the address below.

Part II: Send Transcripts

Contact any and all colleges or universities that you have attended and request that your transcripts be sent directly to EKU at the address below. Most schools have an online request form for this service. Transcripts sent to a student and then delivered to EKU will not be accepted. Each transcript must bear the original signature of the authorized official, along with the seal of the institution, and must be sent to EKU directly from the issuing institution. Transcripts are not required for courses taken at EKU.

Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree

Application Requirements

1. Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.

2. RN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumbrance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

3. Graduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

4. If applicable, APRN license from an approved state that is free and unrestricted, meaning that it has not been subject to reprimand, revocation, probation, suspension, restriction, limitation, disciplinary action, discretionary review/hearing or encumbrance nor had any type of complaint filed against it.

Admission is competitive. Selection is based on careful consideration of all application materials, including but not limited to academic transcripts, the applicant’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Professional Statement, three required professional references and professional work experience. In addition to the criteria listed, an interview may be requested. The Doctor of Nursing Practice Professional Statement will be evaluated for writing skills and content, both of which are heavily weighted in the admission process.

Occupational Profile - Use the official EKU form to provide an occupational profile

Doctor of Nursing Practice Professional Statement - Write a statement that is no more than 750 words in length and addresses the following points:

  • Discuss your professional goals as a DNP graduate.
  • Describe your understanding of the role of the of the DNP-prepared nurse.
  • Discuss your experience with online learning and how you will assure that you are successful in the online DNP program.
  • Brief description of a health or health care delivery problem with a proposed improvement project.

Once your resume, occupational profile and professional statement are complete, you can submit them in the section of your online application labeled "Supporting Documents" or mail, fax or e-mail them to the EKU Graduate School at the address below.
