All of EKU’s 100% online program options meet Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board requirements and prepare educators to take on new roles and responsibilities and to help students reach their full potential.

Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP) Endorsement Preparation
DPP is a 15 hour post-master’s, non-degree granting program that prepares educators for district-wide leadership as directors and assistant directors of pupil personnel services. 

Career options include: Director of pupil personnel services; assistant director of pupil personnel services; school administrator; teacher in elementary, middle or high schools

English as a Second Language (ESL) P-12 Endorsement Preparation
ESL is a 12 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the skill sets needed to teach English language learners in a variety of settings.

Students pursuing this option must hold certification in or admission to TEP in Elementary, Middle Grade, or Secondary Education.

Career options include: ESL teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; ESL educator for community programs; corporate ESL trainer/educator

Gifted Education Endorsement Preparation
Gifted education is a 12 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of services and educational programs for gifted students.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in elementary, middle grades or high school content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve gifted students (P-12).             

Career options include: Gifted education teacher; gifted coordinator (P-12); teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; specialist or coach (P-12); teacher leader educator

Instructional Computer Technology (ICT) Endorsement Preparation

ICT is a 12 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on the best practices needed to teach, coach, or lead P-12 schools and school districts in the planning, implementation, and improvement of technology.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in elementary, middle grades or high school content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve gifted students (P-12).             

Career options include: Instructional computer technology teacher; instructional computer technology coach (P-12); teacher in elementary, middle or high schools

Literacy Endorsement Preparation
Literacy P-12 is a 15 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of literacy services and educational programs for students.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in elementary, middle grades or high school content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve gifted students (P-12).             

Career options include: Reading specialist (P-12); reading and writing teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; reading coach (P-12); teacher leader educator

Math Specialist Endorsement Preparation
Math specialist is a 12 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on the best practices needed to teach, coach, or lead effective mathematics instruction and learning in the classroom. 

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in elementary, middle grades or high school content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve gifted students (P-12).             

Career options include: Math teacher; math coach (P-12); math interventionist in elementary, middle or high schools

School Librarianship — Adding Certification Option
School Librarianship is a 30-36 hour non-degree granting program that enables teachers holding a valid Kentucky teaching license to meet Education Professional Standards Board requirements to obtain a Kentucky P-12 certificate as a School Librarian. Educators leave the program prepared to serve as a School Librarian P-12.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a valid Kentucky teaching license.

Career options include:School librarian; teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; specialist or coach (P-12); teacher leader educator

Special Education — Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Certification

DHH is a 30-42 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that prepares educators to meet the individual linguistic, educational, cognitive, and social needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing across a variety of educational settings

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a current Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in Elementary, Middle Grades, Special Education (LBD, MSD, IECE) or High School content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve students who are deaf or hard of hearing (P-12).

Career options include:Teacher of the deaf in schools for the deaf in public elementary, middle or high schools; Itinerant teacher of the deaf; specialist or coach (P-12)

Special Education — Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) Certification
IECE is a 36-42 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of services and educational programs for children from birth through Kindergarten.

Students pursuing certification must hold an undergraduate degree in early childhood or related field and a Kentucky Teaching Certificate or meet all requirements for admission to teacher education.

Career options include: Kindergarten teacher, Special Education teacher in a preschool, Developmental Interventionist, Kentucky Department of Education Special Education services; Kentucky’s Office for Early Childhood; specialist or coach (P-12), teacher leader educator

Special Education — Learning and Behavior Disorder (LBD) Certification
LBD is a 36-42 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of services and educational programs for students with learning and behavior disorders.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a current Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in Elementary, Middle Grades, Special Education (IECE, MSD, D/HH) or High School content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve students with learning and behavior disorders (P-12).

Career options include: Special education teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; specialist or coach (P-12); teacher leader educator

Special Education — Moderate and Severe Disabilities (MSD) Certification

MSD is a 30-33 hour graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of services and educational programs for students with disabilities.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a current Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in Elementary, Middle Grades, Special Education (IECE, MSD, D/HH) or High School content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve students with learning and behavior disorders (P-12).

Career options include: Special education teacher in elementary, middle or high schools; specialist or coach (P-12); teacher leader educator

Supervisor of Instruction Endorsement Preparation
Supervisor of instruction is a 15 hour post-master’s, non-degree granting program that prepares educators for district-wide leadership as instructional supervisors. 

Career options include: Instructional supervisor; school administrator; teacher in elementary, middle or high schools

Superintendent of Schools Endorsement Preparation

Superintendent of schools is a 12 hour post-master’s, non-degree granting program that prepares highly qualified candidates for district-wide leadership.

Career options include: School superintendent; school administrator; principal
