What is communication studies and why should I study it?
Communication studies focuses on the theoretical, critical, and scientific study of how humans communicate with one another in various forms. Studying communication challenges your mind, broadens your views, and helps you develop an increased awareness of, and skill in, communication practices.
The curriculum presents theory, tools, and techniques for analyzing, managing and improving communication and interactions in professional and personal settings. Students develop a broad range of analytical and communication skills while learning to evaluate and produce messages and corresponding materials that adapt to changing situations and audiences.
According to Ziprecruiter*, in the tech industry alone, the demand for communication skills grew 77.2% in the last year. This level of growth proves the value that employers place on communication capabilities.
Today’s communicators require a breadth of understanding about our world. Communication studies offers training in conflict management, interviewing, negotiation, public speaking, health, intercultural and organizational communication, persuasion, and communication theory.
As a communication studies major you will learn how to plan, organize, and execute projects, programs, and events. As a graduate you’ll be an effective communicator able to resolve conflict, provide leadership and maintain strong relationships with clients, customers, and investors.
