EKU Online > Dunbar Aims for Dream Job with EKU Homeland Security Degree

On May 14, Andrew Dunbar graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security. Two days later, he started an intelligence analyst training program with the Advanced Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC), which prepares members of the intelligence community.

“My dream job is to work as an intelligence analyst, and with my credentials, I’m set for that. It’s been phenomenal. EKU brought me to where I want to be, and the job outlook is great!”

A few years ago, he was enrolled in an on-campus aviation program at a school in Florida, but he soon realized he wanted a career in justice and safety. “I talked to an EKU Homeland Security alum, and then to Dr. Ryan Baggett, and I knew EKU was the place for me,” he recounted.

In addition to being 100 percent online, Dunbar said the reputation of the program and the job opportunities appealed to him. “You can go into homeland security or emergency management or law enforcement. I found 29 different ways to go with this degree,” he said.

He appreciated the fact that his professors had experience in the field and that everyone at EKU seemed to take a personal interest in his education. Dunbar added, “My advisor, Lindsey Greenwell, was really helpful. I talked with her 3-4 times a month to make sure I was on track.”

There was no doubt he was being well-prepared for career success as an intelligence analyst, even before graduation. When Dunbar interviewed with T.J. Maxx corporate offices for an internship/co-op opportunity, he was actually offered a part-time job.

“I can thank my EKU professors, Dr. Baggett and Dr. Mike Collier, for pointing me in the right direction,” said Dunbar. “It’s been phenomenal. EKU brought me to where I want to be, and the job outlook is great!”
