Paramedicine Grad is Also Grad Assistant

EKU Online > Paramedicine Grad is Also Grad Assistant

Alex Dougherty is a master’s student who also earned a bachelor’s degree in paramedicine from EKU. He’s currently a graduate assistant for the Emergency Medical Care degree program. When asked about why he was so passionate about EMS, he had this to say, “Paramedicine became a passion for me when I was a junior in high school, I’ve always had an interest in the medical profession but in a prehospital setting. The passion grew when I went through EKU’s paramedicine program because of all the different aspects and avenues this profession has to offer.”

Alex Dougherty, a master’s student who earned an EKU degree in paramedicine and grad assistant for the Emergency Medical Care program stands outside an EMS center.

His view is that EKU is a home away from home as he feels incredibly comfortable here with the students, as well as faculty and staff. The ability to network and build professional relationships with EMS professors and other leaders in the industry is highly important to him as he advances in his career. Alex feels that Eastern Kentucky University is a special place.

“The program itself is truly unique,” said Dougherty. “It offers a bachelor’s degree in paramedicine, not too many colleges/universities offer that. This program is academically intense and challenges your mental stamina but in my opinion, this is the only program that prepares students to be excellent providers/practitioners and have a successful career in the medical profession.”
