Matt Ayres completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice online from Eastern Kentucky University. Matt is a Police Sergeant for the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Police Department. He recently shared his thoughts about his EKU Online experience.
How has earning this degree changed or aided your career?
Obtaining a bachelor’s degree provides me with the opportunity to promote within my department.
What motivated you to get this degree?
Obtaining my bachelor’s degree allows me to make a difference by promoting in my department. It also opens up additional opportunities for me in my law enforcement career.
What was your favorite part or the highlight of your time as an EKU Online student?
I was encouraged by my instructors to share my experiences and knowledge of law enforcement with my class. I was also able to give advice and guidance to those in my classes who were seeking a career in law enforcement.
How did the EKU Online faculty aid in your success?
The EKU Online faculty were focused on my success. They were always able and willing to assist.
What did you find surprising about the program?
The program is well structured and allowed me to work and attend classes full time.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become an EKU Online student?
Online classes are not for everyone. If you have the discipline to complete assignments without constant oversight, online classes are the way to go. The flexibility of the classes allowed me to continue working full time while attending classes full time online.
