Matt Agee recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He is currently the owner of a lawncare company and fulfilled a lifelong dream of earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He completed his degree online and recently shared his thoughts about his EKU Online experience.

How has earning this degree changed or aided your career?

Earning this degree has expanded my mind tremendously on various issues throughout the criminal justice system. I plan on using this degree as a steppingstone that will make me more marketable, employable, and promotable with future employers.

What motivated you to get this degree?

Honestly, it’s always been a lifelong dream of mine to obtain my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from EKU. Also, considering how competitive the job market is today, I’m very pleased to have this degree attached to my resume. Remember, education is one of the very few things that can never, EVER, be taken away from you.

What was your favorite part or the highlight of your time as an EKU student?

The convenience of EKU’s 100% online degree programs is second to none. You can literally learn anywhere at any time. As a traditional student, you have to be in class on certain days of the week and at certain times. If you’re not, you miss out and fall behind quickly. With EKU’s 100% online degree programs, the pressure of time is somewhat alleviated so long as you remain a responsible student. You, the student, are completely in charge of when, where, and how you learn!

How did the EKU Online faculty aid in your success?

I would never have found the success of a 4.0 GPA without the aid of EKU’s online faculty. The professors want to see you succeed and your advisor will be there with you every step of the way.

What did you find surprising about the program?

The transformation I experienced throughout this 100% online degree program has been incredible. Prior to embarking upon this journey, I was very close-minded and difficult to be persuaded on many issues involving the criminal justice system. However, through numerous conversations with professors and fellow students via discussion boards and other online meetings, I slowly became more open-minded and not so quick to form my conclusions. I’m a much better thinker, listener, and speaker as a result of earning this degree.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become an EKU Online student?

If you want a better future for yourself and/or your family but don’t have the time to commit to being a traditional on-campus student, EKU’s 100% online degree programs are for YOU! There are tons of resources available to you that are designed to help you succeed, and if you have any questions whatsoever, EKU’s online faculty will always make themselves available to assist you.

Any additional comments?

Prepare to be amazed is all I can say! Find the program that’s right for you and stick with it. Try to be open-minded and listen to what your professors and peers have to say … especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as race, gender, and sexuality. Please remember, an education is one of the few things NO ONE can ever take away from you. You are on your way to greatness!

I am forever indebted to the hospitality of EKU’s online faculty and my incredible advisor, Lou Martin, for ensuring I see my way through to graduation.
