The Eastern Kentucky University College of Justice and Safety and EKU Online continue to be recognized among the nation’s best. Create a Career, a leading resource for career information, has identified the “Best Criminal Justice Programs Offering Online Degrees.” EKU ranked 19th in the nation and was the only Kentucky school to make the list.
Create a Career conducts independent research on college degrees and occupations. Programs are assessed on a variety of factors including range of courses, academic quality, reputation and excellence in teaching. Whenever possible, rankings are compared to other sources.
Managing Editor Brian Rudin noted the new list of justice-related degree programs emphasizes students’ options, especially when it comes to online education.
“We created the list to inform prospective students interested in an online criminal justice degree they have an array of very good schools to choose from; they don’t have to limit themselves to well-known for-profit schools,” he wrote in an e-mail announcing EKU’s selection.
The EKU College of Justice and Safety offers a variety of accredited on-campus and online degree programs for those interested in criminal justice and related fields. Majors include Corrections and Juvenile Justice, Homeland Security and Police Studies. The College also offers programs in emergency management, fire science and safety management.
Faculty are known for their expertise. Dr. Pete Kraska’s work appeared in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Victor Kappeler received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division on Critical Criminology. Associate Professor Greg Gorbett was named one of the Top 15 fire investigation professors in the nation by ForensicsColleges.com and one of the nation’s “top five fire experts” in a “60 Minutes” segment.
EKU programs regularly receive accolades for quality and affordability as well. EKU was the highest ranking Kentucky school in U.S. News & World Report’s annual survey of online bachelor’s degree programs. Programs in Fire Science and Homeland Security were named “Most Affordable” by Fire Science Online.
