What brought you to EKU?
I am from the commonwealth and honored to work at an institution that stands for the education and empowerment of the Eastern Kentucky region and beyond.
Tell us a little about your work in your field.
I study interpersonal and organizational communication driven by my corporate experience, classroom interactions, and life observations.
What is your approach to online teaching?
I recognize that not everyone can make it to the brick-and-mortar classroom and online education offers an opportunity that might not be available otherwise.
What tactics or approaches do you use to aid in your student’s success?
I strive to create a heuristic and open learning community. Availability, support, and consistency are key when teaching online.
What do you believe are the biggest advantages to online learning?
The knowledge, confidence, competence, and development gained as one dedicates themself to learning remotely.
What have you been up to lately? (Research, projects, awards, etc.)
I am currently studying conflict styles, emotional intelligence, politeness, and the perceptions of leadership.
What advice would you give to someone who’s considering finishing their degree, or starting for the first time as an adult?
A successful eLearner is not passive; they must be driven to learn the content, to do the work.
Consider your “why.” Why do you want to take the class, why do you want to earn the degree? Revisit your “why” to help you through the challenging times. And…you can totally do this! Your faculty want you to be successful so ask for clarification/help when needed.
