AM Best’s Monthly Insurance Magazine has recognized EKU among the best in their Bests Review. The magazine asked carriers, readers and other insurance professionals which RMI programs do the best job of preparing students for careers in the risk management and insurance field. Top programs are recognized for both academic rigor and soft-skills training. EKU was noted for providing excellent instruction and real-world experiences and placing students in well-paying jobs and providing constructive internships. The real-world focus maintained by the RMI program at EKU prepares students to become business leaders and impact the lives of others, thus providing the opportunity for a financially rewarding career and a competitive edge in the job market.

Online RMI Program a Trailblazer

EKU benefited from being one of the first colleges to offer a fully online RMI degree program. EKU’s 100% online bachelor’s of business administration in risk management and insurance uses the Blackboard online learning platform. For instance, it provides recorded lectures, quizzes, exams, and to facilitate interaction among the students and between students and faculty. The online program has an accelerated asynchronous schedule to make degree completion more feasible for working adults. In addition, with dedicated advisors and free online tutoring and career services, the online program is every bit as rich and rewarding as the in-person program.

“We try to make available to our online learners many of the experiences that our face-to-face students have. We had this mindset that we were going to try our best to make the experience for our online students as rich as possible.” said Lisa A. Gardner, director of the Risk Management & Insurance program at Eastern Kentucky University

Seth Brock is a State Farm Agency account representative and an EKU graduate. He noted the faculty’s drive to develop relationships with people in the insurance industry and give students the ability to gain solid job experience. “EKU works as hard as any university in the country at providing students with the tools and opportunities to further their careers in the insurance world once they have graduated,” said Brock.
