Curriculum

EKU’s online sport management curriculum prepares students to pursue a variety of rewarding career possibilities by offering an interdisciplinary focus with courses in both sport management and business. Sport management courses include legal issues, sports information, event and facility planning, promotion, media relations and sport finance. Business courses include marketing, management, economics, and accounting.

Degree Requirements

A total of 120 credits are required to graduate, including 42 upper-division credits.

Transfer Credits

Students may transfer up to 90 hours of credit from accredited institutions. Please note that a minimum of 30 credit hours in this degree program must be completed at Eastern Kentucky University.

ESS 324 – Policy and Governance in Sport (3)
Designed to encourage students to integrate management theory with governance and policy development. Provides an overview of the sport industry from the perspective of the sport management professional.

ESS 328 – Sport Finance (3)
Course will examine all aspects of successful sport business operations, including budgeting, legal issues, marketing, competitive positioning, regulatory compliance, and strategies for success in sport and recreation industry.

ESS 400 – Management of Sport Organizations (3)
Aspects of sport management including disciplinary foundations of sport, theoretical and applied foundations of organization and management, opportunities available in various segments of the sport industry, and professional preparation and development.

ESS 530 – Sport Communications (3)
Students will explore and apply communication theories to the sport and exercise industry. Emphasis will be on examination of public and media relations with a special focus on organizational communication to external and internal publics.
