Social Intelligence and Leadership

Focusing on human relationships and researched-based social skills, the social intelligence and leadership certificate engages students in practical techniques to enhance their personal and professional interactions. Skills learned will enhance observation techniques and listening strategies as well as aid students in responding in ways that promote positive interactions – personally and professionally. Students will also build upon their leadership competencies and apply universal elements of leading self and others.

This certificate will help students explore relationships, while assisting in the development of critical thinking skills and further examine the art of leadership. Students who complete this certificate will be able to apply these elements into their personal and professional lives.

Curriculum

Rooted in tried and true concepts of social and emotional intelligence, EKU’s curriculum blends academic and professional preparation through course topics such as applied creativity, the science and application of leadership, applied critical thinking and leaders without titles.

Degree Requirements

A total of 18 credits are required to graduate.

 EES 300 – Advanced Social Intelligence Skills (3)
This is an advanced course that builds on the core skills presented in Basic Social Intelligence Skills. It provides additional knowledge and skills for successfully engaging in more complex social and professional interactions and relationships.

EES 310 – Applied Critical Thinking (3)
This course will address the application of critical thinking skills within various fields of study. Students will learn critical thinking skills and how to integrate them into a successful career.

EES 450 – Leaders Without Titles
This course focuses on the personal dimensions that are needed to form the foundation of one’s competencies and abilities to lead self and others.

EES 460 – The Science and Application of Leadership 
This course provides students opportunities to examine, define, operationalize, and apply universal elements of leadership. Effective leaders need to be knowledgeable and skilled in these elements
