Developed by the University of Tennessee (UT), this site provides information on available majors, career opportunities within each major and strategies to be a top candidate in your field. It will allow you to see outlines of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities.

Bureau of Labor Statistics

Produced by the US Department of Labor, this resource overviews specific work tasks, employment environments, educational qualifications, job outlook, and salary ranges for a wide variety of occupations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is the principal fact-finding agency for the federal government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics. The BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, the U.S. Congress, other federal agencies, state and local governments, business, and labor. The BLS also serves as a statistical resource to the Department of Labor.

Occupational Information Network

The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) is developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration. The database, which is available to the public at no cost, is continually updated from input by a broad range of workers in each occupation.

This platform serves as the nation’s primary source of occupational information, providing comprehensive information on key attributes and characteristics of workers and occupations. This resource can be used as a tool for career exploration and job analysis.

Earn a free professionalism certificate to add to your resume

How It Works

  • Email oacs@eku.edu and request to be enrolled in our Professionalism Organization on Blackboard
  • Watch the webinars and review any attached documents
  • Pass the quizzes in each module
  • Download your certificate as proof of completion

 

Finish the certificate on your own time. Each module completed will earn you a badge in that subject area. Once all modules are complete the certificate will be awarded.

Handshake

Handshake is a database of full-time, part-time, seasonal and internship positions filtered and maintained by the Office of Academic & Career Services. Handshake lists positions from local, national, and international organizations. It also serves as the portal through which you can schedule in person or virtual appointments with the Office of Academic & Career Services to have your resume reviewed and/or schedule a mock interview. It is also the first place you can check for career fairs, interviews, and other career-related events happening on or around campus. Most importantly, Handshake is offered at more than 500 colleges and universities, so it gives you access to a national network of hiring employers. Handshake is accessible through a user-friendly app that you download on your mobile device.  To get started, log onto Handshake at EKU.joinhandshake.com using your student email (mymail) credentials and set up a profile. When creating your personal profile, be sure to include the following:

  • Add your work experience
  • Add your education
  • Add any projects and extracurricular(s) you would like to mention to future employers
  • Follow your favorite employers
  • Uploaded your most current and up to date resume. Once your resume is approved by the Office of Academic & Career Services it will be active for all employers connected with Handshake to see.
